Fishing Trips
Steelhead Alley January - April - Wintertime fishing on steelhead alley can be very challenging due to the freezing of the major rivers. This means targeting steelhead in warm water discharges near the Black River and Rocky River from either small power plants or water waste treatment plants. The fishing is fantastic for juveniles and some adults.
The action on the alley continues just after ice out when thousands of Steelhead rush the rivers to spawn in Ohio. Jim has developed a new approach to light-line float fishing that has proved itself time and time again. As the water warms up and the fish move to the beds we put the noodle rods away and pull out the fly rod for some of the most explosive action of the year.
Maumee River April - Fish With Jim Outfitters offers quality guided trips to Maumee River where the best eating game fish of the Great Lakes reside, walleye. These toothy critters are targeted with ultra-light gear making it a true sport-fishing experience.
Lake Erie May - July - Fish With Jim Outfitters follows the fish from the river to the lakes in the summer working as a mate aboard Mi-Hi Charters with Captain Steve Martin trolling for walleye in Lake Erie. Often said to be the best walleye fishing lake in the world, Lake Erie is only one hour south of Detroit and easily accessible from several nearby states. Anyone who has fished on the "Mi-Hi" has appreciated the great fishing, which often leads to a "limit" catch of Walleye.
Lake Michigan - July - September - As the summer progresses, the "Mi-Hi" moves from Lake Erie to Lake Michigan to pursue the wonderful Salmon and Trout fishing the port of Frankfort offers. Kings, Coho, Lake Trout and Steelhead are plentiful in this port, and Steve & Jim’s team approach makes the Mi-Hi a master at getting them to bite. These large fish will be an equal match for you as some of the fish are over 20 pounds of muscle.
Steelhead Alley October - December - Fish With Jim Outfitters offers quality guided trips in Steelhead Alley. Using a similar approach used in the spring, clear water conditions require the use of ultra-light line and super light rods to tame these jumpers. As the water cools down the fish distribute throughout the river making this time of year a favorite for most. Enjoy the fall color change, beautiful scenery and big steelhead ripping the float down!
