The Rocky River
The Rocky River is a relatively short river that borders Cleveland Ohio. It is a tributary of Lake Erie and an urban river with a forest on both sides running through one of the most underrated of the Cleveland Metro Parks system, The Rocky River Reservation.
The Rockies’ composition is different from the other Ohio Streams. The main channel of the Rocky River is located in the Rocky River Reservation from Detroit Road in Lakewood, south to Cedar Point Road in North Olmsted. The stream is of moderate grade and is characterized by long stretches of shallow water broken by riffles and occasional deeper pools. The deeper river pools are few in number and are spaced so that the productive fishing areas are well defined.
The Rocky River is a dynamic fishery effected seasonally by movements of steelhead between the river and Lake Erie. In the spring the Rocky offers spawning runs of steelhead and in the fall, the steelhead reappear in the river and this fishery will hold on until the stream ices in for the winter.
Its location makes it highly accessible to fisherman of all walks of life because many of the fishing holes require limited walking. The Rocky River Reservation Metro Park is home to some of the best Steelheading that Ohio has to offer, bike trails, horse riding, nature tours, and many other activities for an entire family to enjoy. This urban area will surprise you when a deer startles you while taking a drink from the river right behind you. Fish With Jim Outfitters offers quality steelhead trips in the Metro-paradise.
