Where We Fish
Fish With Jim Outfitters fishes many of the Inland Lakes and Grand Traverse Bay in the Northwest Lower Michigan area.
Grand Traverse Bay is a bay of Lake Michigan formed by the Leelanau Peninsula in the northwestern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The bay is 32 miles long, 10 mi wide, and up to 620 feet deep in spots. It is divided into two arms, East Bay and West Bay by the Old Mission Peninsula. Fish With Jim Outfitters fishes Grand Traverse Bay from Elk Rapids, Traverse City and Bowers Harbor. Grand Traverse Bay produces great catches of Lake Trout, Cisco, King Salmon, Coho Salmon, Yellow Perch and the occasional Brown Trout, Steelhead and Burbot during the fishing season. Best times to fish May-November.
Torch Lake at 19 miles long is Michigan's longest inland lake and at approximately 18,770 acres is Michigan's second largest inland lake. Torch Lake has a maximum depth of 320 feet and an average depth of 111 feet, making it Michigan's deepest inland lake. Torch Lake is located 17 miles North East of Traverse City. Torch Lake produces great catches of Lake Trout, Brown Trout, Yellow Perch and the occasional Burbot and Atlantic Salmon. Best times to fish April - June and September - December.
Elk Lake is about a mile and a half wide and nine miles long, and is located near the town of Elk Rapids. It has maximum depth of 192 ft making it Michigan's second deepest after Torch Lake. Elk Lake produces great catches of Lake Trout, Steelhead, Perch and the occasional Atlantic Salmon during the fishing season. Best times to fish June - September.
Mullett Lake is a 16,630 acre lake that is 10 miles long and 4 miles wide with a max depth of 148 ft. The lake is part of the Inland Waterway, by which one can boat 38 miles from Crooked Lake and Round Lake near the Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan across the northern tip of the Lower Peninsula to Cheboygan on Lake Huron. Mullett Lake produces great catches of Steelhead with the occasional walleye during the fishing season. Best times to fish July - September.
Lake Charlevoix is the third largest lake in Michigan with a surface area of over 17,200 acres and 56 miles of shoreline. The maximum depth in the main basin is 122 feet and in the south arm, 58 feet. Fish With Jim Outfitters fishes Lake Charlevoix from Charlevoix, East Jordan and Boyne City. Lake Charlevoix produces great catches of Walleye, Cisco, Salmon and the occasional Steelhead and Brown Trout during the fishing season. Best times to fish April - May and August - September.
Bear Lake is a 316 acre lake that is located just east of Grayling off of M-72. It is an extremely clear lake with a max depth of 60 feet. Bear Lake produces great catches of Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Perch during the fishing season. Best times to fish May - November.
Starvation Lake is a 125 acre lake that is located just south of Mancelona. It is a relatively deep lake with a max depth of 50ft. Starvation Lake produces great catches of Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout and Perch during the fishing season. Best times to fish May - November.
Thumb Lake is a 484 acre lake that is located just east of Boyne Falls. Thumb Lake also know as Lake Louise produces great catches of Splake during the fishing season. Best times to fish May - November.

Tackle: All tackle is provided at no extra cost.
Keeping Fish: Anglers may keep fish on Fish With Jim Outfitters fishing outings. Size limits and possession limits are set by the MDNR.
Fish Cleaning: Fish With Jim Outfitters offers fish cleaning to our customers for a fee of $2 per fish. We provide bags for your catch.
What To Bring: We recommend you bring the following items to make your trip as enjoyable as possible; bottled water or soft drinks, a rain jacket, polarized sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, camera and a cooler for your catch. We fish in a variety of conditions so please dress in layers.
Gratuity: Please remember your guide at the end of the day. A normal tip is 15% of the total value of your trip.
